Design Goals
Coming back after the year-long break from COVID, the team faced many restrictions on how we could meet and work together, but we powered through and worked on improving our design and manufacturing processes, especially with aluminum. Because of the smaller scale support-bot focus at our last comp, we wanted to try and push ourselves to build a ground intake shooter bot that was capable of scoring in the Upper Hub.
Robot Mechanisms
Firewall features a pneumatically actuated extendable intake that used mecanum wheels to funnel Cargo from the ground into our simple indexer which could hold up to 2 Cargo. Over the course of the season we ended up with two wooden hood options for our single flywheel shooter that could target the Upper or Lower Hub, and be swapped in between matches. A reinforced and updated version of our 2020 climb could reach higher and lift faster, and was used to climb directly to the Middle rung.
Match Playstyle
Our autonomous programs were simple and low risk, during fast paced matches our intake-indexer-shooter ball path was able to pick up balls from anywhere on the field and score in the Upper Hub. The climb mechanism was quick and robust, allowing us to climb almost every match and get valuable endgame points. With the help of experienced drive coaches in the WWFirst community we were able to play good defense and became a valuable ally to our alliance, competing in the finals for both of our regional events and winning one.
